Our Story
Genesis Block is on a mission to build the entrepreneur class in the Cape Fear region. Our 3 year breakthrough goals align with our economic development strategy for the community.
- Genesis Block Back on the Block Minority Accelerator, will graduate 120 minority and women owned businesses in the Cape Fear region over the next 3 years.
- Genesis Block companies will add 400 new jobs to the local community providing over $13 million dollars in economic impact.
- Our programs will help companies participating in our minority accelerator double their revenue, increasing the tax base and community prosperity.
MEET THE FOUNDERS
Tracey Newkirk is chairwoman of the African American Business Council and serves as a board member for the Downtown Business Alliance, Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM) and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. She has years of experience as a corporate executive and has worked tirelessly towards her goal of building a vibrant African American middle class in Wilmington. Girard Newkirk serves as a board member for Cape Fear Collective, Cape Fear Museum, Cape Fear Community College Information Technology Committee and in 2018 was named a Global Goodwill Ambassador. He is an alumni of Google For Startups Black Founders Exchange (BFE) 2019 and won the 2019 Coastal Entrepreneur Award in the Emerging Company category. Both he and Tracey are currently members of the 2020 Google For Startups Black Founders Exchange and both were named to the 2020 Wilmington Biz Top 100.
